AC Options - Window, Portable, etc... HELP!! andsoitgoes42 01-02-2007
hi everyone,

Rather than going out to Home Depot and get no assistance, thought I would
post here :)

I've a horizontal sliding window, one of the newer models, and I need
to get an AC unit for my bedroom which is about 200 sq ft, maybe
smaller.

I have got a bunch of fish tanks in there (I know I am crazy) and this
summer the temps are going to get very, very high and there's going to
be major problems with the tanks, I can see that already as my temps
are pushing 82 degrees.

I live in Vancouver, BC and normally the weather doesn't get past the
high 80's, low 90's so it's not a REQUIREMENT for the rest of our
house, it would just be for this room.

The problem with our house, or with us, is that my wife and I must just
produce endless amounts of heat. Would be great if we could hook into
a reactor and utilize some of that, but so be it, we cannot.

The problem I currently run into is the window shape, and overall cost.
I want to go as effective as possible, something I know is going to be
darn near impossible with the running cost, but I just want to budget
for it...

So what I would like to know:

- What type of AC can I get?
- What are the general costs of these types? (I know I am in Canada
and the info is going to be a bit skewed)
- What am I looking at for daily running costs if it's on 20+ hrs/day?

Thanks in advance!!

Nick
