Ceramic floor tiles "crunching"; foundation problem? Walter King 04-13-2007
Hi,

I live in a house that's about 9 years old and in recent months, some floor
tiles have started making a sort of "crunching" or "popping" sound when
they're stepped on. The odd thing is that the tiles that do that are all on
one side of the house, specifically a side that's close to an exterior wall,
while other tiles closer to the center of the house do not exhibit that same
behavior.

The sound itself doesn't really concern me, but I am worried that maybe it's
a symptom of bigger, specifically a foundation problem. I have not seen any
visual indication of a problem, although I am admittedly not very
knowledgeable about what to look for (other than cracks in the wall) to spot
a foundation problem. Am I right to be concerned and if so, is there
anything else I can look for that would confirm or contradict that
possibility? Or is this just normal behavior for 9-year-old ceramic floor
tiles?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I do not know if this is relevant or not, but part of the reason I am
concerned about foundation damage is that I live in an area where that's
fairly common, specifically the Dallas area of north Texas.
