Crime runs rampid in HOA's azotic 07-28-2006

Illusions of utopia and self goverence are proving to be new found reasource
for
aspiring criminals. Realizing that state and local law enforcement will not
provide
security for HOA's, criminals have set thier sights on HOA communities as a
refuge
and place of saftey to conduct thier bussiness. Through vandalism,
intimadation and
the occasional drive by shooting gangs of thugs are taking control of many
HOA's,
being a board member now qualifies you for combat pay. The big question is
how
does gang activity protect property values in your HOA, perhaps its the
graffiti or
tennis court thats now a target range, i see those ammenities add value. Its
going
to be intresting to see what happens when the HOA attorney forcloses on the
drug dealers house, maybe thing will improve when the lawyers start to
disapear.

My HOA in Las Vegas is less than two years old and already the drug dealers
have broken the gates to make it easier for their customers to get in and
the kids are getting drunk late at night around the basketball court. When I
complained they threw a rock through my bathroom window. The manager is too
scared to do anything and there are so many rentals we can't get anyone to
even run for the board. When I called the Ombudsman's office whoever finally
answered the phone sounded like they'd been drinking and told me I needed to
contact an attorney. I'm trying to sell and get out, but there are for sale
signs all over the neighborhood, so it doesn't look promising. Feeling very
very trapped.

What good is a HOA if you have to form a Neighborhood Watch? When we called
the police about the vandalism going on, we were told it was private
property and they couldn't do anything and to call the management. Stupid
me, now we're paying taxes AND hoa fees!!!
