Governor Jeb Bush, Secretary Simone Marstiller, Dear Legislators,
Friends and Members,
The witch hunt that started when Dr. Virgil Rizzo was appointed as
Condo Ombudsman is finally over. The DBPR and the all influential
attorneys finally got their wish: The Governor removed the only person
in the Florida government who actually cared for the welfare of
Florida's condo owners.
The DBPR, led by many incompetent secretaries, who made it a priority
to cover up the short comings of the agency instead of trying to
improve the service, finally got its wish!
It seems the Governor was finally sick and tired of the bitching and
whining of the DBPR, because a small office with a tiny budget showed
the public how much good can be done with the right attitude.
OPPAGA Director Gary VanLandingham and his staff showed in their
reports already how incompetent the DBPR really is. But instead of
trying to make the necessary changes they wasted their time - and
taxpayers' money - trying to cover up their incompetence -- and trying
to blame others for their mistakes.
With Deputy Secretary Andy Edwards Secretary Marstiller found a loud
enough mouthpiece to accuse the condo ombudsman of all kinds of
mistakes - without mentioning who actually committed the blunders. It
wasn't the ombudsman's office that lost records and checks, it wasn't
the ombudsman's office that ignored the statutes and the guidelines or
made false decisions based on assumptions! IT WAS THE DBPR! DBPR
executives were looking for a fall-guy to appease the attorneys whose
cash cow was suddenly threatened because somebody in an official
position was trying to protect Florida's condo owners!
And the Governor used the easy way out by removing Dr. Rizzo, instead
of trying to investigate who really was at fault.
But what should condo-owners expect in a state, where the Governor
vetoes important budget items -- important to protect condo-owners?
Florida has a well-known condo-insurance crisis. Today's headline in a
major newspaper: "Insure home, or buy food?" But a small budget item
that would have created an insurance education program for condos
vanished under the Governor's pen!
Much worse, the financing for a pilot program to teach detectives how
to discover fraud in condos was as well vetoed by the Governor. Scam
artists and embezzlers are stealing our associations blind -- and this
veto will protect them for another year! ONLY IN FLORIDA!
Thank you, Dr. Rizzo, for a job well done! As the old saying goes: No
good deed goes unpunished!
You got fired for doing too many good deeds for Florida's condo-owners!
And the DBPR employees still get paid for doing nothing but covering up
their incompetence!
You all have a great weekend -- and "enjoy" living in a state where not
only you, your family and your home are threatened by hurricanes, but
as well by incompetent government employees paid by your taxes.
Warm Regards,
