While you're building the tank, bond in a slug of phenolic, 1/4"
thick. Then use bulkhead fittings with o rings.

Or, bond in a thicker piece of phenolic (like 3/8" or 1/2"), tap it,
and use thread sealent on tapered threads. It doesn't have to be very
large, a circle 2" in diameter would be plenty. (which suggests that
you can cut it with a hole saw, but it doesn't have to be round,
either.)
