what Phisherman said was good advice. the only difference i would recommend,
is if you use a wet vac, do NOT use another additional cleaner, use straight
hot tap water... the idea is to remove the cleaner that is already in there,
and to totally rinse it all out... putting plastic underneat is a good idea,
but it may be too difficult , especially if it's not along the wall where it
would be easy to pull up.. if you have a good wet vac, you'll be able to
pull enough water out without causing any damage... if you have a fan, place
it over the area to help speed the drying time. if you can pull the carpet
up, place another fan to blow underneath as well as the surface, then put
the carpet back in place once it's dry (i'd wait for at least 24 hrs until
its dry).
as far as over the counter spot cleaners go, Nylac or Folex are good general
over the counter cleaners (they don't leave a soapy residue) ... most are
not good because they can either leave a heavy residue (which attracts
dirt), or they can discolor .... imo, anything with the name Oxy isn't
usually good for carpets, good for other things yes, but not carpets.. i've
seen too many situations where an Oxy product has discolored the carpet.
other products i'd stay away from:
Simple Green
Capture
and especially Resolve
i've seen them all discolor big time... Resolve is super soapy too.
hope this helps
