It's gotten to the point that there is little reason to use a receiver's
or preamp's video switching.

I've three video devices: VCR, multimedia computer, and digital cable.
All have different video cables: svhs for the VCR, VGA for the computer,
and DVI for the cable box.

Eventually the cable box and multimedia computer will move to HDMI and
I could get a receiver/preamp with HDMI switching, but VCRs will probably
never do HDMI still leaving the TV to switch inputs. It won't be that
big a deal as I almost never use the VCR.
