Hilsch Tube for Cabin Temp control... EridanMan 04-06-2006
How large/well calibrated was your tube?

I have heard sounds of running Tube's online - yeah they are definitely
loud... A simple PCV baffle muffler between the tube hot/cold outputs
and the vents should do the trick though - at least one would think...
Depends how much of the sound gets absorbed into the PVC itself I would
imagine.

My paper-napkin drawing of the system called for a dorsally mounted
Tube under the passenger cabin, driven by a high-pressure feed coming
off a turbo driven by the aircraft exhaust (hense, Tube noise wasn't so
much an issue for me). The hot and cold outputs of the tube would then
be piped through the cabin floor to a mixing valve control, which would
allow the pilot to select the hot/cold ratio and total pressure of the
air that come out the vents. That valve would then feed to another 1'
by 6" PVC Muffler on the Cabin floor (preferably behind the control
panel), before being routed to the various vents.

Now, Hilsche tubes produce far more heat than they do cold - my
thinking was that only a portion of the hot output would go to the
control valve... The rest would be baffled up into the wings of the
aircraft (with vents cut at the wing tips) to provide an 'always-on'
de-icing system.

Hilsch tubes _are_ tremendously innefficiant, no doubt about that
