Widely reported on the international press wires.

Stupid gun laws are another issue, as is the social problems that cause
a kid to go 'postal'.

Investigate - Yes, a good idea.
Drag 15 year old out of class, interrogate without lawyer or parent
present, threaten with outcomes beyond those legally available - No,
not a good idea.

The Secret Service are not the FBI, but the point is once they have
done a basic investigation they would have know that they didn't need
to swash this particular bug with a sledge hammer. Just turning up and
telling the girl what the law on making threats is would be enough to
have most kids needing clean jocks.
I am not saying I like what the girl did (and others have done), but I am
saying the response isn't appropriate. I am a highschool teacher and
you can bet your ass that I'd not be letting any law enforcement
official take a kid from my class unless it was done properly (ie adult
like a teacher, parent or lawyer present).

Remember, these are the same people (or at least the head people are)
who told us that there were WMD in Iraq, told us Saddam Hussein
supported Al'Qaeda, tell us they are not torturing anyone, and seem
convinced that the detention camp at Gitmo is some how legal. Talk
about lying to your own people and wiping your butt on the
constitution!
You are so big on your rights and freedoms? Stand up for them then! Oh,
wait...You just did in the recent elections. Good for you.

Not a big secret if you know anything about SIGINT
