Scotchguard on carpets. Black Shuck 10-14-2006
Hi, I've a light coloured hallway carpet, and about 6 months ago, I
managed to get tar/oil/greasy grime spots on it from some dirty shoes.

I used some solvent based spot remover, scrubed it in, and it seemed to
break down the tar, I then wet vac'd the carpet with carpet shampoo, and
it looked liked new. I was very pleased.

However, since then, the areas I cleaned with the solvent keep getting
dark patches on them. I'm thinking perhaps the solvent based cleaner has
removed the scotchgauard in these areas, which is why they are showing
general dirt, that the rest of the carpet does not show.

Does it plausible? If so, can I clean the carpet thouroughtly with a wet
cleaner again, then re-apply scotchguard to the whole carpet to get it all
behaving normally again.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
