You most likely didn't get all of the carpet shampoo up. Carpet shampoo will
leave a residue that attracks dirt. So it is very important to get all
shampoo up. Also, when cleaning carpet don't use the recommended amount of
shampoo. It is way too much and makes it even harder to get it all up
therefore leaving the dirt trapping residue in your carpet.
