The one name you need to know is Velux. They are widely recognized as
the premier manufacturer of skylights. I've two of them for 5 years
now and am very happy with them

One of the basic questions is whether you want them to be fixed or to
be openable. That depends on your lifestyle and environment. But if
you do decide to go with ones that open, I highly recommend going for
the electric motor option. In the grand scheme of construction, it
doesn't cost all that much. And it means you will actually open them,
because all you have to do is push a button. The option of either a
hand crank pole or a pole with a battery motor means that they will
likely never open. Plus the electric motor solution includes a rain
sensor, so if you happen to leave them open, they will close after a
few drops of rain. The controller will also operate a shade, if you
need one.
