The sad thing is that it's not "the government", it's the majority of
us that can take property away from individuals or minorities as long
as a positive result for a large number of citizens will result. This
demonstrates why the Bill of Rights was so important: the majority can
be as untrustworthy as a dictator.
In any event, as my boss pointed, see what property rights you have if
you do not pay your taxes! Or someone in your home or car is caught with
drugs.
I'm hopeful that Congress or state legislatures can pass something to
protect property rights. Otherwise, the only option is to tie the
development up in court beyond the life of the current politicians in
power, and who has that kind of money.
