Contact your pool company. There should be a "gizmo" inserted into the
skimmer to keep water from going down into the plumbing and relieve any
pressure from ice in the skimmer. I would always throw the leftover antifreze
jugs in the skimmer too. ...anyhthing to take up space and relieve
pressure should it build up.

If you remove water from under the cover the cover may slip in the pool.
Trust me, this is a mess! If you take water off the cover when the pool
is full of ice you risk shifting the ice and tearing the liner.

May? Must be Southern New England. ;-) I would call the pool company and see
what they say, but I would do nothing until the ice has melted at least around
the edges. Then you can syphon or pump water off the cover to relieve
stress on the cover and reduce the chance of the pool water being pushed
out. When I had my pool (in NY) I would keep water off the cover (except for
maybe 3-6" for weight) until the pool froze. Then after it thawed I would do
the same. While it was frozen I would do nothing. Of course I had the
"gizmo" and a couple of empty gallon jugs stuffed in the skimmer.
