Basically, you run it long enough and often enough to keep the humidity
at whichever level you want it to be. Does the unit have a humidity
sensor that turns it on when the humidity gets above its set point? If
so, leave it on and it will cycle as needed to maintain your desired
humidity.
And do not forget to empty it with some regularity. If you can put a
hose on it and lead the hose to a floor drain, that would be ideal.
