If you do buy the spare, install it and run it in for several hours.
Defective lamps usually reveal themselves within the first few hours of use,
if not immediately.

I'm not a fan of keeping lamps on the shelf for extended periods. They can
deteriorate without ever being used. And prices for lamps for existing
projectors tend to remain stable, or so it has been during the last 10
years.

If the expected demise of your lamp is more than a year away, I would wait. Put
the money in an interest-bearing account instead.
