A single family home is just that: a house for one family --
sitting by itself on its own lot.
A town home is usually in a block which houses several homes in one
building. Usually each town home is 2 or more stories, and they are
all side-by-side in one physical building -- each with it's own front
and back facades and entrances.
Town homes are also called "row houses".
