Drive around and look at houses. Particularly, look at ones that have a
roof color similar to the color of your roof. Which ones catch your eye?
Why? Shutters are a good place to add a touch of color later, another
excellent place for a touch of color is the front door..dont' be afraid to
paint it something bright or a bit unusual, especially if your house is
pretty neutral. A little bench, planting box or plants are other places
that you can add touches of color.

Personally, I think a white house with black shutters is kind of boring, but
if you take that same house and add a red front door, some gernaiums in a
pot and a red mailbox, it livens it up a lot.

One thing I suggest is to not pick the same exact color as the house on
either side of you. In my opinion, way too boring.

My house is a creamy/yellow color, with a greenish front door/shutters and
bluish green trim. We have bright pink flowers for a little zip.
