I'm an attorney licensed to practice law before the Court of Appeals
of Maryland, and currently a federal employee. I'm thinking of
engaging in the title insurance/settlement/search/closing on a
part-time basis until my retirement, which is a scant 4 years away,
after which I can devote 100% of my time to it. While I obviously know
real property law, I've no idea on how to get started in this real
estate closing business. I was told that I'm qualified to take the
State Examination for Title Insurance Agent in MD but could find no
information on how to go about it. I went to the MLTA and the MD State
Insurance Commission websites but could find no detailed information on
the subject.
I'd appreciate your advice as to whether this the right way to get
started in this business, and where do I find the required information.
Thanks and best regards,
FTT
