heat expansion of composite structures, anyone know the effects? steve 07-20-2006
I've a few questions about how heat effects composite structures :

1. Does anyone know what the expansion coefficient is for typical
composite structures. Worst case scenario, say a black panel heat
cycling in the sun.

2. Size - Are there any thoughs of limits on panel size. I was
wondering about multiple large panels all expanding and contracting.
Will the cause stress to each other ? The analogy comes to mind of what
would happen to railway track if they didnt put gaps between each
length to allow for this. Are there any guidelines for large multi
panel structures ?

3. Longevity - How many extreme heat cycles can composite structures
last whilst remaining safe. -20 celciius -> 80 dec Celcuis and so on.

Any thoughts, advice pointer greatly appreciated
Regards
Steve
